Peptest: the innovative test for the diagnosis of gastroesophageal reflux
The Peptest is an innovative method to diagnose gastroesophageal reflux by analysing a saliva or sputum sample. This non-invasive test detects pepsin, an enzyme of gastric origin, which is a highly predictive marker of gastroesophageal reflux.

Who is the Peptest recommended for?
The test is indicated for those who have typical and atypical symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux.
Typical symptoms of reflux:
- Heartburn
- Acidic taste in the mouth
- Burning in the throat
- Regurgitation
Atypical symptoms of reflux:
- Chronic cough
- Shortness of breath
- Hoarseness
- Dysphonia
- Asthma
- Recurrent otitis
- Chest pain, even with antacid therapy
How does the Peptest work?
The Peptest can be carried out at one of our access points or directly at your home, thanks to specific test tubes to be collected at the CSM Group collection points. After sampling, the samples will be analyzed in the laboratory to detect the presence of pepsin. The detailed report, which will indicate whether pepsin has been detected and therefore the presence of gastroesophageal reflux, will be delivered within 48 hours.
