Testosterone

Clinical indications

Testosterone is a typically male sex hormone, it is present in women in much lower amounts. It is important for fertility as in men it stimulates the maturation of spermatozoa in the testicles, enables the development of the reproductive organs by maintaining their functionality and influences secondary sexual characteristics.

In women, testosterone levels are tested in cases of infertility, polycystic ovary syndrome, suspected hypertrichosis or virilisation, abnormal uterine bleeding and amenorrhoea (absence of the menstrual cycle).
