Insulinemia

Clinical indications

Insulinemia represents the amount of insulin present in the blood.

Insulin is a hormone produced in response to glucose-induced stimulation by beta cells in the pancreas. In response to an increase in glucose, it allows the entry and storage of this sugar inside the cells (muscle, fat, etc.), decreasing the blood level concentration. In contrast, in response to low insulin levels, glycaemic levels rise significantly (hyperglycaemia).
Insulin therefore regulates blood glucose levels and its evaluation is important in case of hypoglycaemia, that is, a shortage of glucose in the blood.
