Clinical indications
The D-dimer is a degradation product of fibrin, a protein involved in the formation of clots in blood vessels.
The dosage of D-dimer is important in cases of thrombotic episodes or pathologies such as pulmonary embolism (PE), disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) and deep vein thrombosis (DVT), to monitor the progression of the disease and therapeutic efficacy .
