Creatinine

Clinical indications

Testing of creatinine levels is important in the assessment of renal function. When the kidneys do not work as they should, they cannot transfer the creatinine present in the bloodstream into the urine: the value of creatinaemia in the blood increases.

Sports excesses, burns and trauma can also cause an increase in creatine values.

Low creatinine levels, on the other hand, are related to anaemia, muscle atrophy and debilitating states.
