Carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA-125)
Clinical indications
Carbohydrate antigen 125 is a glycoprotein physiologically present in the endometrium and uterine fluids.
Its release may increase in cases of inflammation of the peritoneum or pleura, endometriosis and ovarian cysts.
The testing of CA-125 values is useful in monitoring diagnosed cases of ovarian and endometrial cancer undergoing treatment. Increased CA-125 values are also found in some colorectal, liver and lung cancers.
